Toughened or Tempered Glass (both are same) is a term for a safety glass which is strengthened due to controlled thermal heating in the furnace after which the plain glass gets five times stronger without losing any transparency. Even when it breaks on a very high impact, it shatters into very small harmless fragments. Architects love toughened glass as it gives them freedom to use extra huge sizes of glass to give a spacious look to the interiors.
